Introduction to Percentage:
Percentage is something part of a hundred that is fraction of a hundred.How to figure percentages? Percentage is denoted by the symbol ' % '. Per cent means how much per centum (Latin word), centum is the other word for hundred like 25% otherwise is denoted as 25 out of 100 or 25/100 or 0.25.
Percentage normally used to express numbers in between 0 and 1 sometimes abnormal proportions can also be expressed as a percentage like 125% is expressed as 1.25, also -0.45% is expressed as -0.0045.
Figuring percentages comes along with us on our day to day activities for example such as calculating tips in a restaurant or calculating the sale price of a jean or shoes etc....etc. Figuring percentages does not need very good math knowledge if you have a simple arithmetic brain that is enough. This plays on important role in solving math problems.
Uses of Percentages
The basic concept of calculating percentages is keeping in mind it is out of 100 like 40% is nothing but 40 / 100.
Here are few examples of how to figure percentages....
What is 32% of 150?
32/100 of 150
32/100 x 150 (the word 'of' always becomes a multiplication sign)
= 48
So 32% of 150 is 48.
